Road asphalt, granite, rock, ties

Road asphalt rubble is collected and cleaned. Using ties, string, and electrical wires of all colours, each piece of rubble is tied up on all sides like a packet. All the rubble is hung side by side, at regular intervals, on a wall in the exhibition space. The wires consist of a disparate and colourful mixture of other wires, knotted and tied together. When hung, they form a dense, repetitive vertical grid in the space. A heavy accumulation, a weight distributed along the length of the wall. The installation invites us to see as many bodies and ballasts as there are, each of which could, by extension, be a person. These hundreds of suspended pieces of rubble form a compact mass representing a community of solidarity, but also as many individual entities and torn destinies. The links in EUROPA! EUROPA! underlie accidental rupture, tearing, war.
